Dr Kadhem Jallab

Managing Director

After leaving work in Local Government in September 2011, Kadhem Jallab, became the Managing Director of his own Company “TWRI Policy & Research” which he has turned into a National/International Company. He managed TWRI for over 15 years when it was a Local Government Research Unit.

Kadhem has a Master degree in Statistics from Heriot-Watt University in Edinburgh and a PhD degree in Statistics from Newcastle University. He is a Fellow of the Royal Statistical Society and a member of the British Society for Population Studies.

Professor Alan Townsend

Associate Director (Labour Market)

Professor (and Councillor) Alan Townsend, MA, MRTPI retired as the Director of the International Centre for Regional & Development Studies in the University of Durham in 2005, and continued as Emeritus Professor. He is Vice-Chair of Bishop Auckland College, and of Greater Willington Town Council. He is one of relatively few people who have worked extensively in both physical and economic planning.

Professor Tony Champion

Associate Director (Population Geography)

Tony Champion has four decades of research experience at Newcastle University, focusing primarily on population change and migration and their implications for regional and local population profiles and planning policies. He became Professor of Population Geography in 1996 and is now Emeritus, located within the university‟s Centre for Urban and Regional Development Studies (CURDS).

Chris Stephens

Associate Director (Census and Demography)

Chris is the Associate Director of TWRI Research with particular responsibility for Census material and Demography. His main roles are to analyse and interpret social and other data, including Census and other demographic data. This includes monitoring change. Chris has an honours degree in Mathematics, from Leicester University, and a Masters degree in Statistics from Newcastle University. He has been a Fellow of the Royal Statistical Society since 1972.

Joanne Cholerton

Associate Director (Community Safety)

Joanne is the TWRI Policy and Research Associate Director for Community Safety. She has worked in the community safety field for over 15 years both as a consultant and practitioner and has a proven record of success in managing Community Safety Partnerships as well as providing support to develop and deliver community safety strategies, policies and business processes (such as information sharing), and improve partnership efficiency, effectiveness and performance. She has extensive experience of working with, and for, a wide range of public and third sector organisations.

Fred has nearly 30 years experience of research and computerised information systems in Local Government. He is an Associate Senior Researcher of TWRI Policy & Research with a particular responsibility for Economic Research and Analysis, however, his experience extends into other areas such as GIS, Housing and Planning Support, Demography & Census and Property Gazetteers.

Joan has over 30 years experience in handling various data sets. Joan is an ex Tyne & Wear Research and Information (TWRI) Senior Researcher with particular expertise in data management and manipulations. Joan joined TWRI back in 1986 when it was first established. She has extensive expertise, understanding and capabilities in Community Safety Data (Crime, Recorded Incidents, Victims, Offenders, Fire, Probations data etc.) including sourcing, cleansing and disseminations.
